Users can search for a drug and then be directed to participating pharmacies or manufacturers to complete a purchase. For some medications, users can access a discount card right from the website to bring to a retail or online pharmacy.

The most significant update is the addition of more than 600 generic drugs, including widely used medications for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. When the website launched, it focused on specialty drugs and treatments like GLP-1s and fertility treatments.

Patients can now compare prices across local pharmacies or choose delivery options, making it easier to find the lowest available price. Many of these medications are priced very low, some under $5, making them accessible to patients paying out of pocket.

According to the White House, the goal is to make prescription drug pricing more transparent and give consumers the ability to compare prices without relying solely on insurance companies.
